Inspired by
and her 5 minutes abstract exercise I set out to practice it for 5 days. Four were done in the morning, one in the evening. You wouldn't think 5 minutes would be enough time but sticking with easy materials (Neocolor 2 crayons, Inktense blocks and watercolor/gouache) with not much time to think about it seems to be a good mix. I could use these same papers and do another 5 minutes over 5 days to add more to each. This has gotten me excited about painting!
I decided to paint my coffee cup with the thought of wanting to paint as a young child would. They wouldn't be concerned in the least about getting it “right”. It would just be about the experience. That's exactly what this was. FUN!
This I painted in my nature journal which I started back in 2020! The paper really isn't the best for watercolor/gouache but I experimented with Inktense and water. I enjoyed drybrushing with it. Again, fun! I painted my pansies which I started from seed! They're still alive! I've also picked up my self portrait sketchbook (started 2 years ago!) and started pages with a new pack of Crayola Supertip markers. I still had a few from when the kids were young and was using them for all sorts of notes and lists. I decided to pick up a new pack and it's been fun and the results are pretty funny. Maybe I'll share that
