Amaryllis
I seem to have been bitten by the bulb bug. Amaryllis bulbs that is. In late fall I potted up four bulbs that were purchased from a big box store. Two (Ferrrari) were for gifts. I potted two (Ferrari and Red Peacock) for me in the white pot above. I loved the look of the group of potted amaryllis so much that my daughter bought me another (front right, Pinkolo) which so far only has leaves. I also bought another (dark pot, Glee). I gifted the two and shortly after bought another, larger bulb (Blossom Peacock) that’s shown on the left. So I have five now.
When I bought the first bulbs I really had the intention of growing them and most likely getting rid of them afterwards. I had grown (see below) and kept ones in the past without really understanding how to take care of them beyond what it said on the tag. Around the time of feeling a bit obsessed with the amaryllis I came across videos by Danielle of Northlawn Flower Farm. She’s an amazing gardener and flower farmer. An artist really. Her favorite flower is amaryllis and she knows a ton about them! I’m not sure how many she has in her collection, but her enthusiasm is pretty contagious. I’ve learned so much about amaryllis from her. About different bulb sizes (bigger is better), how they like to be potted up, what to do when you do pot them up, what to do after they are done flowering and so much more. I now feel ready to keep my bulbs and try to get them to bloom again next year. Also, this was a good resource.
I’m patiently awaiting the bloom on Glee. Any day now.
I can feel that this may be a start of a collection. I guess five could be considered a collection! I’m considering buying a red pearl amaryllis next. It’s a deep, dark red. Just gorgeous!
Below are a few from past years. So beautiful. I wish I had them still. They are a wonderful addition and help to brighten up the dark days of winter.

Oh, gosh! They are all so beautiful, Dana. I only have one this year and it didn't really do that well. Now I'm wishing i had gotten more. Hahaha! I'm easily influence when it comes to plants or art supplies.
